Procedures for submission, reviewing and publication of scientific articles

Unpublished articles corresponding to the scientific area 17.00.02 – Musicology – are accepted for peer review and further publication.
Articles are selected according to their suitability to the journal’s thematic priorities, scientific novelty, present day relevance, validity of research results and highly professional level of their presentation as well as their accordance to the rules of science ethics.

Authors are expected to send their articles via e-mail or deliver them to the editorial office in any other way on the electronic medium. Articles’ manuscripts are getting through the preliminary review during 5 working days where their accordance with general regulations of the Journal and lack of plagiarism are being confirmed.
Editorial office is following Russian copyright law in its work. If reasonable doubts about plagiarism in a certain article arise, the article is not accepted for further review. Literal citation without reference is strictly prohibited including use of graphic files and considerable rephrasing of other authors’ works. In all cases the source for such references must be mentioned and fixed.

Recommendation for publication is made by editorial board of the Journal on the basis of the reviewers’ opinion (more on the reviewing procedure) taking into account the article’s concordance with the Journal’s thematic focus, the article’s scientific value and relevance.
Editorial board gives priority to the articles recommended for publication by High Schools’ Chairs and Sections of Scientific Institutions. All Ph.D. students and Ph.D. applicants are to present their Chairs’ recommendation for publication.
General assessment of the article is given to the author by the editorial board: accepted for publication / recommended for corrections and finalization according to the reviewers’ comments / rejected because of some formal or scientific reasons.
Editor-in-Chief informs the author about the decision and possible date of the article’s publication.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ARTICLES
Acceptable length of articles is from 15 to 30 thousand characters (including spaces), with an accompanying reference list including recommended minimum of 7–10 items of scholarly literature, formatted according to the standards GOST 7.0.100–2018 and GOST 7.0.5–2008 for 3–5 illustrations and/or musical examples. Works exceeding these specifications may be reviewed by editorial board as an exception.
Texts should be typed in MS Word (format *.docx or *.doc) using Times New Roman font (12–14 points at single or 1.5 spacing).
List of references is to include new editions published during the last five years from the moment of the article’s presentation. References are included into the list only if cited or mentioned in the article’s body.
All illustrations — sheet music examples, photographs, tables and charts — must be sent as separate files in *.jpg, or *.tif format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (for tables, diagrams and music examples — 600 dpi). Scanned materials must be in «shades of gray» (grayscale).
The following must be included into the package submitted with all articles:
1) an abstract in Russian and English of no fewer than 150 words, arranged as follows:
*   paragraph 1 — subject of the research;
*   paragraph 2 — method or methodology used;
*   paragraph 3 — scientific novelty and conclusions.
2) 7–10 keywords (in Russian and English).
3) information about the author: first name, middle name (or patronymic) and last name in Russian and English (using the author’s transliteration); academic degree and title; employment and position (with name of department or subdivision cited in full); and e-mail address.
Editorial board has the right to make editorial revisions to the text of the articles presented.

In accordance with the laws of Russian Federation, authors transmit publication rights for their manuscripts to the founder and publisher of the journal (the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music) on the basis of non-exclusive licensing, for which the relevant documents of agreement must be submitted to the editorial office (either in person or by mail using the institutional address).
On presenting their article for publication all authors guarantee that their work for which the copyright is being transmitted is their original work that has not been given to anyone for copying, publishing or any other official use. If authors were using works of other authors in their article or their own other publications they have to put references to the above mentioned works.
The Journal «Scholarly papers of Russian Gnesins Academy of Music» is following the open access pattern. The Journal is distributed via the Internet free of charge and all articles are open for the public without any limitations.
Authors’ copyright for his/her work is preserved as the right of authorship for the work and all other legal non-property rights. The founder retains the copyright to the journal in its entirety. The authors further guarantee that their articles being the object of copyright transmittance are their own original works, and that they have not been officially transferred to anyone for reproduction or any other use before. The authors are solely responsible for the content of their articles and for the fact of their publication. The editors of the journal and its founder and publisher carry no responsibility before authors and/or third parties and organizations for possible damage caused by publication of their articles.
The journal publishes its articles on a royalty-free basis. Every author has the right to hold two free copies of the journal issue in which her article is published.
Article publication is free of charge for authors.

If conflict of interests occurs on any stage of preparation for publication this fact is immediately reported to Editor-in-Chief for the preservation of legal interests and scientific reputation of the conflict’s sides. Conflicts’ of interest prevention and settlement might include any measures up to the article’s withdrawal from publication.

The views of the articles’ authors on any given scholarly issue do not necessarily coincide with those of the journal’s editorial board.
