Abstract: This article publishes for the first time excerpts from the diary of composer, musicologist, and professor at the Gnessin State Musical Pedagogical Institute, F. E. Vitachek, which captures the events of Moscow’s musical life in 1943, which he witnessed and participated in. The diary entries are accompanied by detailed commentary and biographical information. The first section of the article provides a brief overview of the social and everyday context, without which it is impossible to imagine the living and working conditions of Soviet musicians during the war.
