Romances by R. Glier in the A. Nezhdanova’s Repertoire

Abstract: The article is devoted to R. Glier’s chamber vocal heritage which to be examined in the aspect of A. Nezhdanova’s performing preferences. The author notes that in the extensive concert repertoire of the artist during the 1900–1930s romances by R. Glier invariably occupied one of the leading positions. The full list of these pieces is cited (two of them were dedicated by the author to A. Nezhdanova), some facts of the efficient creative collaboration between R. Glier and the singer are mentioned. This collaboration was preceded the publications and premiere renditions of the line of opuses (consultations, vocal performing editing, etc.). The highly successful performances of R. Glier as conductor and piano accompanist with A. Nezhdanova (she was voted as «perfect» interpreter of his romances). The typical features of the imagery-emotional harmony and musical language inherent in the chamber vocal works by R. Glier and dating to P. Tchaikovsky’s traditions are emphasized. These features undoubtedly impressed the artist which more than once declared her fidelity the named traditions.
