Reflections on the reception of Alfred Schnittke’s works: On the anniversary of the composer

Abstract: The article raises the question of the prospects for the reception of Alfred Schnittke’s work. To do this, it compares the anniversary events associated with the composer’s 70th, 80th, and 90th birthdays; the author compares anniversary events marking the composer’s 70th, 80th, and 90th birthdays. The article surveys both Russian and international publications, including works by Maria Kostakeva from Bulgaria, Amray Flechsig from Germany, Ivana Medić from the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, who has worked extensively with materials from the composer’s archive held at the Juilliard School, Japanese scholar Jun Chiba, Russian scholar Tatiana Frantova, and other researchers. Particularly important is the use of excerpts from interviews with performers of Schnittke’s music, including Oleg Krysa, Gidon Kremer, and Yuri Bashmet. The study is to be continued. 

In the process of analysis, special attention is paid to the interaction of directing music, visual art and dramaturgy. In conclusion, the diversity of directorial approaches applied in staging opera works on the contemporary stage testifies to the independence of the genre and its ability to adapt to my cultural needs.
