Abstract: The concept of «harmony», used and studied for many centuries, continues to raise many questions. The modern era, marked by numerous issues, is no exception. Reviewing definitions and the scope of understanding of harmony, we have identified several interesting features, including the distinction between the use of the word and the sound of contemporary music itself. Our formulation «harmony is a system of musical-aesthetic and music-theoretical thinking of a certain period in art» has become the subject of close attention in this article.
