Poetry of Vyacheslav Ivanov in Alexander Grechaninov’s chamber vocal works: a creative dialogue of contemporaries

Abstract: The article is devoted to the textual and musical analysis of the chamber vocal works of the composer A. T. Grechaninov (1864–1956) based on the verses of the symbolist poet V. I. Ivanov (1866–1949). The work of both authors is an integral part of the Russian culture of the Silver Age and the culture of the Russian Abroad in the 1920s-1940s. The article examines the history and reasons for the emergence of creative ties between A. Grechaninov and V. Ivanov, reveals parallels between the poetic and musical vocabulary and figurative dominants of their work. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the stylistic, genre and compositional features of the chamber vocal works of A. T. Grechaninov, the interconnection of music and poetic text.
