| Abstract: The article is dedicated to the artistic activity of the outstanding harpist of the Italian opera, the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres, professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, talented transcriptionist and virtuoso performer Ekaterina Adolfovna Walter-Kühne (1870–1931), that have been studied relatively little. Until now, the harpist’s concert experience has been studied comparatively little. The archival documents presented in the article for the first time, as well as the analysis of critical press reviews of Walter-Kühne’s performances, helped to detail the creative portrait of the performer. A study of the performer’s repertoire, which was mostly made up of author’s arrangements of piano works for the harp, allows us to talk about Walter-Küne’s innovative approach, which determined further ways of improving the repertoire for this instrument. In this context, it is noted that the most important aspect of Walter-Küne’s performance is the fundamental change in the semantics of Russian harp performance, which was relatively light-weight at the time. Based on this, it is concluded that the performer made a significant contribution to the development of Russian harp art.
