Abstract: The article reveals the features of the interpretation of the genre of G. V. Chernov’s Seventh Symphony, which was created as a dedication to A. P. Borodin. The author aims to identify the specific features of the composer’s interpretation of the genre, emphasizing the originality of the composition, its form, and the development of its texture and tonality. The author also establishes a connection between the program embedded in the symphony’s dedication and its genre-style features, which are evident in the epic manner of presenting the musical material, the dialogic nature of the thematic material, its complex metrorhythmic organization, the breaks in the narrative, and the gradual texture modulations. The author’s focus includes various types of polyphonic presentation, such as imitative forms, contrasting and layered polyphony, and its canonical variations. Special attention is paid to intonational connections and the derivative principle of thematicism, which contribute to a sense of the composition’s integrity, as well as of quotation.
