Abstract: Using the example of a review of new productions of the 2023/2024 season of three Moscow musical theaters, the article undertakes an analytical study of modern repertoire trends in Russian opera houses. The author’s focus includes premiere performances of the Helikon OperaThe Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre and the New Opera, in particular, the following productions are considered: «Cherevichki», «Emperor of Atlantis» and «Madama Butterfly» at the Helikon Opera, «The Tsar’s Bride», «Not Only Love» and «Mermaid» at the MAMT K. S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, «War and Peace. Natasha and Andrey», «The Flying Dutchman», «The Postman from Longjumeau» at the New Opera.
The analysis of new opera productions, in which theaters are equally turning to domestic and foreign, modern and classical opera, shows that the course today is predominantly focused on a multidirectional repertoire, in which military themes occupy a separate place. The exception was the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko MAMT, which presented domestic operas during the past season; in general, they began to occupy a more prominent place on Russian music and theater stages. The premiere performances demonstrate the tendencies to discover new points of perception of well-known opera masterpieces, the desire to discover little-known ones and to revive long-forgotten opuses.
