Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present to the reader the oeuvre of Maurice Ohana —an outstanding French composer of Spanish origin. His music enjoyed considerable recognition in France during his lifetime, his works continue to be performed and recorded, but the literature on him is rather scarce; in our country mainly his pieces for guitar are heard from time to time, which constitute but a minor part of his rich and varied output. Meanwhile, surveying the French musical landscape of the second half of the 20th century, we come to a conclusion that Ohana’s art was one of its most impressive, vivid, ethically and aesthetically attractive highlights. The article provides concise descriptions of several among Ohana’s key works with some music examples that might give some insight into his highly original style.
