«At the nameless height»: Mikhail Matusovsky’s work in the context of the paradigm of the 1960s. On the 110th anniversary of the birth of the poet

Abstract: The article is dedicated to the work of the outstanding poet of the second half of the 20th century Mikhail Lvovich Matusovsky. The author turns to Matusovsky’s song heritage of the 1960s, which was heard in two contrasting Soviet films «Devchata» (1961) and «Tishina» (1964). The article examines the changes in the conditions for the development of the genre of mass song in the 1960s. The scientific novelty lies in the study of Mikhail Matusovsky’s work from the position of modern scientific knowledge. The findings of the article allow us to talk about the ‘new reality’ of songwriters in the 1960s, in which the state still exercised control and encouraged authors. The cinema, which underwent changes, was still closely connected with mass song, which allows us to talk about the interpenetration of the genres of mass song and cinema, which, in turn, influenced each other.
