Abstract: The subject of this article is the influence of Shostakovich’s Eleventh Symphony “The Year 1905” on the development of the symphonic genre in the in the works of Chinese composers Wan Yunjie, Jiang Dingxian, Ju Wei, Luo Zhongrong, Ma Sitsui, Li Huanzhi, Liu Zhuang, Che Jian, Li Yansheng and Ding Shande. The relevance and scientific novelty lie in the consideration of this problem taking into account the Chinese national context using the works of modern Chinese musicologists Liang Maochun, Qian Renping and others as examples. The conclusions concern the features of the Chinese composers’ approach to writing symphonies are following: the reliance on programmaticity; the use of revolutionary song as the main source of thematics; the preference for a one-part structure.
