Abstract: The reader is presented with a creative and personal portrait of the Soviet Azerbaijani musicologist Saida Firudinovna Dashdamirova (b. 1951), the author of the dissertation research “The Paths of Historical Development of the Musical Culture of Iran” (1984). At the time, it was recognized as the first work that identified the most important historical types of Iranian musical culture from ancient times to the present day, and also revealed the nature and development trends of the elements of musical language that are stable for the development of twentieth-century music. The conversation with S. Dashdamirova recorded valuable information not only about the personality itself as a scientist and a person, but also about the era of the formation of Soviet musicology in the field of studying the musical cultures of Asian and African countries. The materials of the conversation can be used in developing the problems of the methodology of modern ethnomusicology, issues of culturally conditioned hearing and the processes of acculturation of the peoples of the USSR, as well as to fill the gap in the history of the study of world musical Iranian studies. The article is part of the work of S. F. Dashdamirova, which is being prepared for publication within the framework of the project «Music in Culture», implemented on the basis of an agreement between the State Institute of Art Studies and the Ibn Sina Foundation.
